Today, the key questions at the core of science are based on the belief that science already understands the nature of reality. However, many fundamental questions remain unanswered, and science is often being restricted by assumptions that have hardened into dogmas. According to these dogmas, all reality is material or physical. The world is a machine, made up of dead matter. Nature is purposeless and consciousness is nothing but the physical activity of the brain.
In the spirit of the Eigenthal-Trialogues, new questions will be addressed in open-minded discussions and workshops with an audience interested to investigate inspiring new insights from science, philosophy, and consciousness studies. Where does consciousness really come from, and how does it fit into our ideas about the nature of life and the human future?
Global problems and decision makers behind closed doors
At the core, the Eigenthal-Trialogues aim at creating new knowledge by contributing to build a peaceful, and sustainable world, in which humanity uses science as a tool for collective orientation.
- We are alarmed by the disconnect between the urgency of global problems and the way politics and international communities are dealing with them.
- We see decision makers meeting behind closed doors and out of touch with reality. At the same time, activists and civil society organizations are gathering outside the meeting rooms, and are often presenting constructive solutions to the problems. But their proposals are not taken seriously.
- We need to do something about it.
Key questions of our time
The Eigenthal-Trialogues offer a wide expansion of knowledge to discuss key questions of our time.
Leading researchers—three older and also younger personalities—from the philosophy of mind, environmental philosophy and science, neuroscience, quantum physics, artificial intelligence research, the mind sciences and Buddhism as well as post-growth economics will be invited to the Eigenthal-Talks for interdisciplinary discussions and reflection.
Streaming platforms make it possible today to listen to the ideas of the world’s greatest minds. Whether it be in leadership, philosophy, ecology, neuroscience, physics, artificial intelligence research, the contemplative sciences and Buddhism, or post-growth economics, the talks will deliver a world class online learning experience available anytime and anywhere on a smartphone, personal computer, Apple TV, or streaming media players.
The core ideas discussed in the Eigenthal, near Lucerne, will be summarized and published in a final press release.
1st Eigenthal-Trialogue
By taking an in-depth look at the future of humanity in 1992, the mathematician Ralph Abraham, the ethnobotanist and mystic Terence McKenna, and the biologist Rupert Sheldrake, exchanged their views on urgent issues in a public trialogue followed by further trialogues (Video still © "The future of humanity - McKenna, Abraham, Sheldrake", 1992).
The social issues and political problems they discussed in Esalen, Big Sur, are still unsolved today—over two decades after the turn of the millennium.
In the spirit of the Esalen Trialogues, the 1st Eigenthal-Trialogue entitled A Kind of Hope will take place on 24 October 2022. It will be open to a public audience.
On the occasion of the 1st Eigenthal-Trialogue (in English), the economist Heiner Flassbeck, former German State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Finance, and Chief of Macroeconomics and Development at the UN Organization for International Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Thupten Jinpa Langri, the 14th Dalai Lama’s longtime English interpreter, and Nancy Wimmer, the director of the renewable energy research company, microSOLAR, which specializes in microfinance and rural electrification in developing countries, will speak on Monday, 24 October, 2022, 09.00 – 17.00.
Books of the Eigenthal guest speakers: “Der begrenzte Planet und die unbegrenzte Wirtschaft: Lassen sich Ökonomie und Ökologie versöhnen?” (2020) by Heiner Flassbeck, “A Fearless Heart: How the Courage to be Compassionate can Transform our Lives” (2015) by Thupten Jinpa; “Green Energy for a Billion Poor” (2012) by Nancy Wimmer.
